Deep Creek coach Bill Partain fondly recalls the countless hours he spent talking baseball with former players who went on to bigger things.
Clay Rapada, now a pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles, would discuss the game with Partain until the sun went down. So would Chris Baker, now a standout first baseman at Old
Dominion.
The latest of Partain's "dirt rats" is Kam Stewart. The senior shortstop/pitcher regularly sits next to his coach Twins Joe Mauer Jersey on bus rides after games, analyzing what the Hornets did right and wrong.
"Probably one of the hardest-working kids I've ever had," said Partain, who has coached on Deep Creek's staff since 1999. "We practice six days a

The frustrated silence in the Janesville Craig baseball team's dugout said it all.

The Cougars cut a four-run seventh-inning deficit to one before falling short against third-place Middleton, 8-7, in a Big Eight Conference game here Tuesday.
The heart-stopping loss left Cougar coach Victor Herbst shrugging his shoulders in disappointment as his team fell to 4-11 in the conference.
"We were where we needed to be at the end and had a good battle," Herbst said. "But we just didn't play strong in the Phillies Cliff Lee Jersey middle of the game."
The decisive battle took place between newly inserted Middleton relief pitcher Alex Miller and Craig shortstop Jameson Henning.
